Jeff Patton, MD, CEO, TENNESSEE ONCOLOGY

The Patton family has had a great May. I hope the same is true for you. We hosted an engagement party at our home for Ashley’s college roommate. She is marrying the son of family friends. It was a great time to catch up with many close friends and of course I gave a corny toast! My son Evan and I have continued to go to the Predators games- what a blast!

Nurse’s week was celebrated during the month of May. My personal gratitude and respect for our outstanding nurses is such that it is hard to put into words. They do difficult but very rewarding work and are truly the backbone of our practice. Thank you for what you do for our patients and their families! I hope each of you sense the value Tennessee Oncology has always placed on our nursing program and the pride shared being the 2017 recipient of the national Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) employer recognition award.

Great strides in the treatment of cancer continue. Tennessee Oncology physicians contribute to this success each day through our partnership with the Sarah Cannon Research Institute and their strong, individual commitments to clinical trials. While we celebrate this progress and the patients who benefit, the link below humbles us to the work ahead and fuels our passion and commitment to bring clinical trials to patients in their communities and close to their homes.

As May comes to a close and we celebrate Memorial Day, I want to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I hope each of you will take time to reflect on those who gave everything. I know I will. Memorial Day weekend is a great time to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy with family.

I find this Mark Twain quote to be timeless:

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.”
