Jeff Patton, MD, CEO, TENNESSEE ONCOLOGY

Happy summer everyone!

The Patton family will be celebrating the July 4th holiday in the Finger Lakes of New York with family and friends. The Finger Lakes Region is a spectacular playground against the backdrop of the best of Mother Nature. I hope you too are able to share this national tradition with your family and friends. What an awe inspiring and enduring event we remember on the 4th. It is a unique and totally American Holiday that all of us should enjoy and celebrate with the reverence the day deserves. In the spirit of patriotism I am sharing a few quotes that resonate with me and express the significance of the independence we enjoy.

America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact – the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality.” – Adlai Stevenson

We have reached the first year anniversary of our transition to OncoEMR. Wow, the year went fast! Here’s a neat little fact. Tennessee Oncology remains the largest EMR conversion in the history of community oncology! It brings great pleasure knowing our success was the result of skill and grace. I could not be more proud of each and every one of you and the diligence and determination exerted to bring fruition to this impressive achievement. You exhibited the best of Tennessee Oncology, embracing innovation while continuing to put the care of our patients first. The folks at Flatiron still talk about our fantastic team and practice to this day. Congratulations. Thank you!

In the face of great change such as that of the EMR, another of our core values was on full display- that of optimism. Helen Keller said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”

Much optimism was needed to embrace all the changes of a new EMR.

It is our continued optimism that gives us the vision to help patients and families with the ravages of cancer.

It is our optimism that promotes innovation as we lead the country in clinical trial enrollment.

It is our optimism that makes Tennessee Oncology the leading oncology practice in the nation.

So with continued optimism and innovation we celebrate our great country, our freedoms, our independence and the bright future that is waiting for us ahead.

Happy 4th of July, Jeff.
