Nashville, TN – March 20, 2024 – Tennessee Oncology, a nationally recognized independent oncology practice with 35 clinics, announced that the practice has treated its 2,000th patient in its proton center.
Now in its sixth year of operations, The Tennessee Oncology Proton Center has treated patients from 31 states and territories across the country from Alaska to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tennessee Oncology physicians have treated 1,200 prostate cancer patients with proton therapy as well as patients with central nervous center, head, neck, breast, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers. Tennessee Oncology Proton Center is one of only 44 proton centers operating in the U.S.
Mr. Philip Joffrion, the 2000th patient treated, said: “When I first came to the proton center, I was very apprehensive. I didn’t know what to expect and the thought of getting radiation treatment was scary. But I walked in every day to a warm and friendly staff, and they made me feel at ease. If anybody must go through this, Tennessee Oncology is the place to come. I felt like I truly mattered.”
Natalie Dickson, MD, President and Chief Strategy Officer at Tennessee Oncology said: “When we first acquired the Tennessee Oncology Proton Center, our goal was to give Tennessee cancer patients access to another cutting-edge therapeutic option. We’ve not only fulfilled our promise to Tennessee families, but the proton center has become nationally known for combining innovative technologies with the best community oncology offers – the highest quality of care delivered compassionately and conveniently by people who genially consider it a privilege to treat our patients.”
