No Surprises Act

TENNESSEE ONCOLOGY wants you to understand costs before care begins. The No Surprises Act is a federal law that helps protect you from unexpected bills (also called balance bills).

What is a “surprise bill”?
Sometimes you might receive a separate bill from a provider who isn’t in your insurance network—even if you didn’t choose them. This is called balance billing, and it can be unexpected and expensive. Federal rules limit when this can happen.

Your Protections at Tennessee Oncology

• In-Network Cost Protection: When your visit is in-network, you pay your usual copay, coinsurance, or deductible—even if some supporting providers are out-of-network.
• Advance Notice & Consent: We explain options before out-of-network services are charged and ask for your written consent.
• Clear Itemized Billing: You’ll receive itemized statements and can ask us to review any charge.

Good Faith Estimate (for Self-Pay)
If you don’t have insurance—or choose not to use it—you can receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before care begins. You may use a federal dispute process if your final bill exceeds the estimate of $400 or more.
