With warmer temperatures arriving, several cities across Middle Tennessee are gearing up for their annual Relay for Life events.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, which raises money for cancer research, patient care programs and education and prevention initiatives. In 2015 alone, $150,000,000 raised through the Relay for Life program went towards groundbreaking research grants. In that same year, 316,000 rides were provided to patients traveling to and from treatment.
At each event, members of every relay team take turns walking around a designated track or path for between 6 and 24 hours, with special laps dedicated to survivors and caregivers. Each team has a decorated campsite, and can memorialize or honor friends or loved ones that have passed away due to cancer.
